As part of creating a New Story, AER (Assessment, Evaluation and Reporting) has undergone a big change which is outlined in the Growing Success document. The document is a very important document for all educators and the 7 fundamental principles mentioned are far reaching and essential for all Ontario teachers.
Growing Success: A Quick Guide For Teachers was created by the Near North District School Board. It provides information about the key ideas in the document i.e. the 7 Fundamentals, Big Ideas, The Achievement Chart, Learning Skills and Work Habits, Evaluation and Reporting and the 3 different types of assessment (as, for and of).
This document allows teachers to skim through the main points of the Growing Success document and gain an understanding of the overall message of each point.
The level of reflection for this resource is critical reflection. By focussing on ensuring that the 7 principles are being respected and implemented ensures that learning is not simply for academic reasons but social as well. Focussing on students' achievement of content standards and Learning Skills & Work Habits based on the principles involves teachers getting to know their student's needs based on partnerships beyond the classroom and providing students with skills they need to succeed both within and beyond their academics.
